Testimonials

“ I learned some simpler ways to communicate attacking space and opening up lanes. The concepts were simple to understand and the video breakdowns were helpful. The online portal and information was very valuable. It was great being able to go back through it and have access to it. The guided sessions with clips were great for a further deep dive on the information. Having the ability to ask questions and test comprehension was huge. I'd highly recommend this program. Any time someone can deep dive on concepts and how to utilize skills and make structures more effective it will greatly improve their ability in game.

Chris Ardito (Union College Assistant Coach)

“ How to attack what’s covered to open up space to where you actually want to go. [Coach Xander] gave a lot of examples ”

Maya Jones D1 Player

“ I learned about finding open and closed windows and how to think about multiple outcomes from one situation. (Coach Xander) was optimistic about all the different answers people gave. It’s a good platform and could really help kids see the ice better

Emily King - D1 Player

“ [I learned] windows, learning when to switch speeds, threatening who’s covered. Would recommend to another player.

Paige Greco - D1 Player

“ [I learned] when to shoot or pass on a 2 vs 1. I like how in detail he was about the point he wanted to make clear and that he always had examples for us. I would say yes to do it because it allows you to see the game through a whole new perspective.”

  • My name is Xander, I am a former NCAA D2 player. I got fed up with wasting my time and energy doing drills with no connection to a real game.

I created Conscious Hockey to help players like you, study the strategies of the best NHL players.

  • Players want specific details to practice, not buzzwords that everybody already has heard.

I started by analyzing game film and compiling a library of clips of all the best players.

I started posting about my research on Instagram. Where I developed a following and got valuable feedback on what problems to study next.

  • A business of training players to shoot and stick handle on and off ice developed... But there was still something missing.

I saw a need for a personalized program that taught players decision making strategy.

There are a lot of great coaches that teach techniques of skating, shooting, and stick handling.

Very few coaches teach players how to see the ice, what decisions to make, and how to deceive opponents.

At that point I began shifting my focus from in person skills training to online film study.

The Film Analysis Program developed. Doing what I love to do everyday is a privilege that I don’t take for granted.

Studying hockey’s best, and teaching players how to achieve their full potential is the best job I could ask for.

Client Reviews

  • Hockey Mom Susan

Coach Xander is superb! He has worked with my 12 year old son only 3-4X so far and after every session I can see his confidence and technique improve. He is Knowledgeable, patient and detailed in his instructions but provides constant corrections in a relaxed reassuring positive environment for my son. He encourages questions from my son during his sessions as well as anytime via text or email and promptly responds. I would definitely recommend Xander to anyone who wants to improve there hockey IQ and stick skills!

  • Kerry

Coach Xander has exceeded my expectations. He's prompt, professional, and runs a very, very strong training session. I had shared with him two specific things I was hoping for my son to work on, and the lessons have been tailored around those concepts with incredibly specific feedback and drills for my son. The sessions are engaging, fun, challenging, and have really led my son to put a lot more thought into specifics including his shot, his stance, and the thought behind the decisions he needs to make on the ice.

  • Steve

Coach Xander worked with my 14 y/o on stick handling, weight shifts and snap shots. He breaks movements and skills down in a way that are easy to follow and can take home with you to work on further. His attention to detail and adjustment suggestions are great. My son used what he had learned after one session over 2 games this past weekend to great success. These sessions are a great learning tool and confidence builder that will do not typically get in a team practice or skills setting. We are really looking forward to future sessions with Xander.
